Just got back from a weekend away and to say it was fantastic is an understatement starting from the first communication with Nikki regarding our booking and catering request till the very end of our stay.

It was a birthday weekend away for my mum and we arrived to a surprise of complimentary goodies and wine, and Nikki even thought to call me regarding offering to set up a portacot for my baby which was so thoughtful.

We booked 2 carriages for our family of 8. The beds were extremely comfortable. The carriages were clean and well equipped with all the cooking equipment you would expect and more. There was a week sticker mini bar and nespresso machine.

They also offer catering of homemade pizzas, Antipasto and a breakfast hamper which was so convenient. The pizzas were yummy!

The carriageway is fantastic for kids. My kids loved seeing the steam trains go by and loved the firepit.

There was a very friendly dog on site, which my kids loved the company of.

My Mum had a wonderful weekend away with grandkids. The last time we visited was 16 years ago and I have to say it was an impressive improvement in terms of the little touches to make it homely and inviting.

A very peaceful escape and such lovely service offered by Nikki.

Kids are grieving the return back to routine life, and already asking when we will be going back. Which we will definitely be doing.

    Highly recommend it!!

A brilliant place to stay with family. This is our 2nd time visiting. The beds are quite comfortable.
We had a small issue with the room when checking in (not enough beds set), when we contacted the property managers, they had some friendly staff out within 15 minutes to fix things up - given how remote the property is, this was well and truly above what we would expect - thanks :)

We have seen plenty of trains from the bridge - XPT, Freight and Hunter Line services, throughout the daytime and overnight.

The views from the property are splendid, very pretty surrounds. Very tranquil (aside from when a train roars through)

Dungog is well set up for the basics (food etc), we did Pizza in Dungog, breakky down at Paterson Lodge and lunch at Stroud, all a short drive from Carriageway.

    We will definitely be back!!

Highly recommended... as a returning customer each time I stay here I leave feeling as though I’ve been on a luxury retreat. It’s not just the beautiful accommodation, it is also the spacious grounds that include valley views of the river flats on one side and those stunning well known rolling hills on the other. Nature's masterpieces are everywhere If you take the time to look. A beautiful place for photography. The peace and quiet is priceless. Lots of discoveries on the grounds such as authentic railway signs, ageing metal farm equipment, original bridgework, fencing and architecture. The Station Masters Cottage is the ultimate retreat -a beautiful private garden , set back well away from other travellers. Original timber shingle roof over front verandah and high ceilings in both bedrooms. All modern facilities. Perfectly situated overlooking the valley so that the fresh breeze flows right through cottage (great for the warmer months). A winding dirt road for morning walks with plenty of shade, and a lovely herb / veggie garden. A wooden garden trellis covered in vines. Fresh air...Crisp linen...fantastic staff... really, it doesn’t get any better than this.

First time staying here at Carriageway, we had high hopes for the stay but it wasnt the 5 stars we were hoping for.

We had a two night stay in the spa queen room. The "queen" bed was more like a double it was tiny and was like sleeping on the floor, way too har to get comfortable on.

Our beds and bathroom were not tidied up after the first night, and we weren't provided with clean towels etc.

We ran out of milk after 1 day so we had to provide our own. No sugar was provided so again we had to get our own.

The pool was not available for use.

The communal bbq looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months so we decided to go into town for dinners instead of making our own here.

There was also dead bugs throughout the kitchen and all over the plates and cups through the cupboard which again was enough to put us off using any of it for food.

There were a few light globes that need replacing in the bathroom and near the beds as they've blown and covered in dust.

Apart from these small issues, it's a nice place to stay. Just needs a bit more maintenance and TLC to get it up to scratch.

I would stay here again if they replaced the mattresses with nicer ones. Highly suggest upgrading the beds to King with medium firmness in the spa room, there is plenty of room for it and it would make the room feel more superior, given the spa, balcony and fireplace ambience that's there.

Carriageway is magical. Set amidst the beautiful landscape of hills and the incredible soundscape of birds, this is a rarity. This tranquil setting with lavishly refurbished carriages is a must for all families and couples. The only break in the peace is the hum of each train as it circles the wonderful property. For functions or for a stay, Carriageway is a place I will return to... As often as I can.
